Tour to Vesuvius Crater

November 14, 2008 at 9:00

The tour to the Vesuvius crater will be guided by Prof. Giovanni Orsi, from the Vesuvius Observatory, Naples section of the Italian National Institute for Geophysics and Volcanology.

The tour schedule is subject to weather conditions

We will leave at 9:00 from Naples Downtown by bus and reach the parking lot on the top of the volcano in about one hour.

Ascent to the crater

Starting from the bus stop, located about 200 meters below the top of the volcano, we will walk up for about 20-25 minutes. On the top of Mt. Vesuvius, we will take a walk around the crater rim, which offers also a wonderful view of the Bay of Naples and of the islands. During the tour Prof. Orsi will give an overview on the volcanological history of the volcano.

Visit to the Museum

If weather conditions do not allow reaching the crater, we will move to the Vesuvius Observatory Historical Building that hosts a Museum with historical instruments and a mineralogical exhibition. More info about the Museum can be downloaded from here [1004 KB].

The tour will likely end at 14.00
